Wednesday, December 12, 2007 Just came back for the lake, things here do not look to bad, still I only found 10 and 11 inches of ice. Starting today I am going to allow small trucks to use our access if they so chose, I know personally it is much easier than dragging a portable house on foot. We are suppose to get a little more snow tonight and again tomorrow along with some brisk winds, this could help with some of the snow or maybe it could make it worse, we just have to wait and see. Again all I am asking is anyone taking a fish house on to the lake this weekend to please take it off when they leave.
Tuesday, December 11, 2007 I have not been on the lake since Sunday except right here near shore; some of our more reliable fishermen have said that we have gained a couple of inches of ice since Sunday. I will get out there tomorrow and do some checking and if that is true we just may be letting some of the lighter trucks use our access. I still am not going to plow any roads until we see what happens with all of this snow on the lake. For the next week or two I am going to ask a favor of our fishermen and that is if you do take a fish house out of our access please bring it back and store it in the lot until later in the season. Right now if you left your house on the lake and the wind starts to blow (and it will sooner or later) and you are not here to take it off the lake the snow drift’s around your house would flood you out and make a mess of the whole area.
Monday, December 10, 2007 Yesterday was a very busy day on the lake for me; I did a lot of checking and measuring all over the lake. During my travels I did encounter a few smaller trucks out on the lake but most were not venturing very far from shore (except for Buddy Hillman). I really do not understand why we are making ice so slowly but it is just not happening, I am pretty sure it has a lot to do with all of the snow on the lake I had a hard time yesterday finding any ice more than 8 or 9 inches and I never found any ice over 10 inches, plus I found a couple of cracks that I will have to keep and eye on. What we need is a good old 2 day blow out of the northwest to move most of this snow off of the lake, all I can say is be patient and be safe, it will happen soon enough. Now on the bright side, the walleye fishing has been excellent in 5 to 8 feet of water (which is just a short walk from shore here) no problem catching two walleyes in the slot. The northern pike fishing has been “HOT” the past week many 40 inch plus fish were iced but yesterday was something else, I had one fisherman out there who could not keep 2 tip ups in the water at the same time, seem like he had a flag as soon as he walked away to set the second, probably the fishing trip of a lifetime for that lucky fisherman.
